Invoking the 25th amendment isn’t simple

You had to have been living under a rock not to have heard calls for President Trump’s impeachment, emotional instability or unfitness to hold office. There is talk of invoking the 25th amendment.

The 25th amendment; now there’s an answer: not so fast, Jack! The 25th amendment lays out the order of succession if the President is incapable of ‘being President’ like JFK. The Vice President assumes the role of the President. But article IV, of the amendment (which contains the legal process of invoking the 25th amendment)  and this is where the waters get murky.

1. The Vice President and a majority of the executive (cabinet members) need to agree that removal from office is in the country’s best interest.) They petition the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate in writing.

2. The VP immediately assumes the Presidency

3. The President can then appeal to the Congress that he is, in fact, capable to hold office. the decision. He can appeal to get back what the Vice President ‘took.’ If his appeal is successful, he is able to take the job back that he relinquished to his Vice President.

Problems? I see a few: All decisions of this magnitude need to have as a priority, “what is best for the American people?” What is best for our Union runs a close 2nd…I submit that unless the situation is dire, the damage that can be done to our Union by removing a duly-elected President from office, unless he is clearly unfit to do the job is too great. The polarizing effect would be too great and the country would suffer.

The Vice President and other members of the executive would not have jobs without having been chosen by the President. Would they turn their backs on him? Et tu brute? Sounds like a cabinet-level mutiny to me. I’d like to think I live in a world where unless a President has been deemed unfit for office by a psychiatrist or medical doctor, he stays in office.

The President stays in office until such time as he has been declared unfit (not disliked by many armchair psychiatrists who have never seen the President)  This is no laughing matter and I doubt that with a Republican House and Republican Senate, that removal would happen.

Demented?

Lately, we’ve heard claims of our President’s dementia, how unfit to hold office he is. Are these claims worth the time or energy spent listening to them or writing this post about them?

I think not. If they were true, our national security, our treaties, our plans, our whole government, relations with other countries would be suspect and a shame and at risk- if our president were incapacitated. But, I also feel that there are enough checks and balances, enough people who surround our president on a daily basis who would see their futures rocket to earth like comet, that they would/could not keep demented cat in the proverbial bag for long.

It has also been said that our president isn’t the ‘sharpest tool in the shed,’ a moron, an idiot. In some circles it is said that our president is ‘as dumb as rock.’ I differ. No matter what you may think of Donald Trump politically or personally, this 71 year old works 18-20 hour days, was accepted into the Wharton School of Business, doesn’t travel with the ‘turnip truck’ crowd; rather, travels with the elites. Am I now to be convinced that this man has a mental deficiency so great that it defies the many with whom he comes into contact?

This same man has been a major success in his life. With no political background and no organization, he ran for and won the presidency of the United States when the opposition was certain in all minds, except his. to win. He kept his head when others couldn’t, has a list of accomplishments during his first year as president not the least of which is an incredible turning  around in the US economy. Yet, this man who has been such an incredible success in running one of the worlds foremost reality shows, in real estate development globally, in hosting a hit reality television show and owning the network: this man is dumb?

The line from the original ‘Die Hard’ movie comes to mind when I think of the claims of non-intelligence or idiocy: “Hey, Babe, I negotiate million dollar deals for breakfast…” I believe our president is more than capable. Incompetency has been the rallying cry for years when a candidate beats to a different drummer; in this case, his.

Rand Paul- your thoughts?

Do you remember the libertarian candidate for president, Ron Paul? His son, Rand, decided that the party for him was the GOP. Often for isolationism, Rand, feels that not all problems ‘go away’ with isolationism and that sometimes intervention is called for.

” Rand Paul tries to reach Republicans where they are and gently nudge them in a less interventionist direction by emphasizing areas of possible agreement between the GOP mainstream and libertarianism.”¹

Rand Paul, runs on the Republican ticket and is often favored by the Tea Party.

Has the wall been torn down?

These are not my words, but a good introduction: “Such actions are also designed to “intimidate sources,” Scarborough noted, which Bernstein deemed “inexcusable.” There “is no reason that a presidency that is interested in a truly free press and its functioning should permit this to happen,” Bernstein asserted.”

Take the 9 minutes needed and listen to the story. Where does the need of the government to know, infringe upon our right to privacy and the ability of what is supposed to be a free press, to remain just that, free?

Isn’t this chilling? Doesn’t it make your blood boil? Even Carl Bernstein (or should I say, ESPECIALLY Carl Bernstein, is up in arms… Sounds like Watergate, Richard Nixon all over again. America, wake up; we need to be the WATCHDOG OF OUR GOVERNMENT!

“The election is over, the talking is done…”

I know, I know, the election is over; and to paraphrase something I read on Facebook™  ”The election is over, the talking is done. My party lost, your party won. So let us be friends, let arguments pass. I’ll hug my elephant, you kiss your  a****!  Most people are trying to do the ‘lets be friends’ part; not the ‘you kiss you  a****’ part. There are a few folks who still feel that it is their duty to convince the ‘other’ guy that he was so wrong to vote the way he did, even though the election was nearly 2 weeks ago. Americans should stop talking about politics and affairs of state, right? Wrong.

Because all Americans know that our finances, jobs, debt and economy and anything remotely tied to these things, are headed for the proverbial terlit (and some say it is already there), it is up to Americans to decide what role the government has, if any, in solving these problems. Part of the problem was caused by too much government involvement, and part of the problem was caused by too little government involvement in operations of this country. After all, if government is PART of the problem, asking/demanding/allowing that SAME GOVERNMENT be part of the SOLUTION; seems to me a bit like allowing the government to be judge, jury and executioner at its own trial. This is hardly an impartial way to solve a problem. Don’t you think it is the role of the GOVERNED/WE THE PEOPLE to determine what the role of government is in finding a solution?

Another thing that the American people ought to be doing (and not just because I say so), is deciding if they want to return to strict interpretation of our founding documents, do they want to mold them into their lifestyle  now (after all  the documents have withstood the test of 230+ years for a reason).

The following article appears long and in some ways is a bit over-the-top for me, but when read with an open mind, there are some solid truths to it. As tempted as we may be to spend the next 4 years squabbling, let spend the next 4 years TALKING  and finding solutions so that the next generation and enjoying life.

“Do You Hear the People Sing?”

Les Miserables 1999

“It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!” All of us had ancestors or were slaves at one time, so I think we can ‘identify’ with the words of this song from “Les Miserables” about the French Revolution.

A revolutionary I’m not, but I can’t help but notice that American emotions border on the brink of hysteria at times. People differ in their ideas about the direction in which this country should go. Should it follow the Constitution or progress and ‘get with the times?’ For years, Americans who thought this way were in the minority; now Americans must think and act quickly, so as not to have their voices heard.

Americans used to boast that they were free and lived “In the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave…” American freedoms erode and our country used to be the #1 ‘FREEST and now the USA is closer to #10.

Respect for the US abroad has eroded, our allies aren’t sure if they can count on us, but I’d like to hope when push came to shove, America would step up to the plate…One person didn’t start this trend, and one person can’t stop it, either; but, whomever we chose next may determine if we hear the “beating of your hearts or the beating of a drum..”

Special Operations Speaks

Each branch of the military has its own special forces. These are groups of men and women who have undergone rigorous training in extremely difficult circumstances to be the ‘BEST OF THE BEST’ and usually perform under duress or conditions that are tougher than tough. In Vietnam, one of these groups emerged : United States Army Special Forces, the Green Berets.

Not long ago, the Navy SEALs (where SEALs stands for members who excel in special operations on the sea, air and land) brought Osama bin-Laden to justice.

Some members (and retired members) of these Special Ops Groups have joined together and formed an organization, SPECIAL OPERATIONS SPEAKS. Please check them out their website at http://specialoperationsspeaks.com and donate to the cause of liberty and freedom. It is important to note in this time when liberty and freedom are eroding, that people have the opportunity to make his/her own political statements; and also donate if possible.

This is a very interesting website which reveals how the Special Ops forces have changed the courses of wars or the direction of war. No one likes war, but Special Ops (the name given to all these elite groups of our military) has been able to shorten the duration or decrease the intensity. This list is far from inclusive; rather it is only a start of the current listings.
Special ops forces that you may have heard of are:

Air Force Pararescue

Army Special Forces-Green Berets-

Navy SEALs

US Army Rangers

SARC-Special Amphious Reconaissance Corpsman

Air Force Pararescut

US Coast hard Rescue Swimmers

These are just a few of the highly trained and secretive special forces.
