I know, I know, the election is over; and to paraphrase something I read on Facebook™ ”The election is over, the talking is done. My party lost, your party won. So let us be friends, let arguments pass. I’ll hug my elephant, you kiss your a****! Most people are trying to do the ‘lets be friends’ part; not the ‘you kiss you a****’ part. There are a few folks who still feel that it is their duty to convince the ‘other’ guy that he was so wrong to vote the way he did, even though the election was nearly 2 weeks ago. Americans should stop talking about politics and affairs of state, right? Wrong.
Because all Americans know that our finances, jobs, debt and economy and anything remotely tied to these things, are headed for the proverbial terlit (and some say it is already there), it is up to Americans to decide what role the government has, if any, in solving these problems. Part of the problem was caused by too much government involvement, and part of the problem was caused by too little government involvement in operations of this country. After all, if government is PART of the problem, asking/demanding/allowing that SAME GOVERNMENT be part of the SOLUTION; seems to me a bit like allowing the government to be judge, jury and executioner at its own trial. This is hardly an impartial way to solve a problem. Don’t you think it is the role of the GOVERNED/WE THE PEOPLE to determine what the role of government is in finding a solution?
Another thing that the American people ought to be doing (and not just because I say so), is deciding if they want to return to strict interpretation of our founding documents, do they want to mold them into their lifestyle now (after all the documents have withstood the test of 230+ years for a reason).
The following article appears long and in some ways is a bit over-the-top for me, but when read with an open mind, there are some solid truths to it. As tempted as we may be to spend the next 4 years squabbling, let spend the next 4 years TALKING and finding solutions so that the next generation and enjoying life.
This article should be required reading for anyone considering giving Barack Obama 4 more years. Many liberals have already made up their minds, so don’t confuse me with the facts, but no amount of sitting around the table talking economic patriotism and begging for 4 more years (despite a hugely unpopular 4 previous years) will change the minds of some voters. I’d like to be given a solid, fact-based reason that this country should have 4 more years AND this man deserves the 4 years.
But, heck; does your plumber get a SECOND chance if he messes up your brand new bathroom, or the electrician deserve another chance when he messes up the wiring to your house and you have to pay thousands to have it redone? I think the answer is a resounding ‘NO!’
But Barack Obama feels that we should give him another chance-based on what-ah, white, straight teeth and smooth talking. Snake oil salesmen fit that bill, too!.
Its clear to this voter that the choice is just as clear. Mitt Romney is no natural born politician, but he is a patriot and cares not if he’s given a second term; where Mr. Obama’s sun rises and sets on whether he and his cronies get another term-for what, I shudder to think.
“It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again!” All of us had ancestors or were slaves at one time, so I think we can ‘identify’ with the words of this song from “Les Miserables” about the French Revolution.
A revolutionary I’m not, but I can’t help but notice that American emotions border on the brink of hysteria at times. People differ in their ideas about the direction in which this country should go. Should it follow the Constitution or progress and ‘get with the times?’ For years, Americans who thought this way were in the minority; now Americans must think and act quickly, so as not to have their voices heard.
Americans used to boast that they were free and lived “In the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave…” American freedoms erode and our country used to be the #1 ‘FREEST and now the USA is closer to #10.
Respect for the US abroad has eroded, our allies aren’t sure if they can count on us, but I’d like to hope when push came to shove, America would step up to the plate…One person didn’t start this trend, and one person can’t stop it, either; but, whomever we chose next may determine if we hear the “beating of your hearts or the beating of a drum..”
Chicagoteachers make a good $71,000 and they ask for more? To pay for their health bennies? I thought they were in this for the students, just like I was in nursing for my patients WHO NEEDED, WHO RELIED UPON AND NEEDED ME.There is a fine line between complete narcissism and altruism with necessary narcissism.
I also wonder how our President feels about this. He has no choice but to back the NEA; but his former Chief of Staff and a close ally, Rahm Emmanuel is now mayor of Chicago. Is that why we haven’t heard much from President Obama about this? Poor Rahm, he doesn’t have the budget to meet the teachers; financial demands, unless he’s willing to increase the taxes on the parents of schoolchildren. Then again, Increasing Johnnies’ parents taxes will make them much less able and desirous to help Johnny with his homework and the Chicago School System will go further in that dark hole.
Yes, the rent has to get paid, but I also know that $71,000 is more than enough to pay Chicago rent. Heck, I lived nicely on $45,000 as a nurse in Chicago. And when I retire, there’s no such thing as a big fat pension waiting for me. But, how could I forget the plastic pen for National Nurse’s Week!
Quality of education of Chicago’s student’s should be priority #1. No, teacher’s shouldn’t work for nothing, but when fewer than 60% of students graduate from high school, there’s something ‘rotten in Denmark.’
Each branch of the military has its own special forces. These are groups of men and women who have undergone rigorous training in extremely difficult circumstances to be the ‘BEST OF THE BEST’ and usually perform under duress or conditions that are tougher than tough. In Vietnam, one of these groups emerged : United States Army Special Forces, the Green Berets.
Not long ago, the Navy SEALs (where SEALs stands for members who excel in special operations on the sea, air and land) brought Osama bin-Laden to justice.
Some members (and retired members) of these Special Ops Groups have joined together and formed an organization, SPECIAL OPERATIONS SPEAKS. Please check them out their website at http://specialoperationsspeaks.com and donate to the cause of liberty and freedom. It is important to note in this time when liberty and freedom are eroding, that people have the opportunity to make his/her own political statements; and also donate if possible.
This is a very interesting website which reveals how the Special Ops forces have changed the courses of wars or the direction of war. No one likes war, but Special Ops (the name given to all these elite groups of our military) has been able to shorten the duration or decrease the intensity. This list is far from inclusive; rather it is only a start of the current listings.
Special ops forces that you may have heard of are:
Air Force Pararescue
Army Special Forces-Green Berets-
US Army Rangers
SARC-Special Amphious Reconaissance Corpsman
Air Force Pararescut
US Coast hard Rescue Swimmers
These are just a few of the highly trained and secretive special forces.
If so, who’s fighting? I’m not and I’m a woman. However, Sandra Fluke feels that a war is being waged on women. Ms. Fluke has quite a history of peaceful activism for women’s right’s and advocacy for human trafficking and many good causes.
But because she is not an expert on insurance coverage of contraceptives or the role of the church in contraception; Ms. Fluke was not permitted to testify at the House Ways and Means Committee hearings. Because of this denial, Republicans (they control the House) have been accused of waging WAR ON WOMEN! Get real! I’m a woman and I’m a Republican and I don’t feel that war has been declared on me. I found this clip of Dennis Miller commenting on Sandra Fluke’s now involvement in the current political arena, interesting:
Not a politician or a pundit, Mr. Romney pointed out some stark differences between the two presidential candidates last night. Mr. Obama wants us to talk to Iran. Negotiate. “Well, we’re still talking to Iran and their centrifuges are still spinning” While we engage in foreign trade, others are making millions and also a mockery of the US. Mitt Romney proceeded to say that “When nations cheat in trade, there will be unmistakable consequences [in my administration].” His reference to Mr. Putin was to the off-mic moment when President Obama told D. Medveyev that he would be able to be “more flexible after the election.”
But I think the most telling moment of Mr. Romney’s speech was when he said that “President Obama promised to heal the planet; my promise to you is to help you and your family.” ‘Heal the planet’ can mean anything, any clap-trap you want can fit into that bundle. The thing is, he hasn’t done any of that, even. Heal-cure divisiveness. This country is more divided now than ever before. There can only be a few meanings, all of them good, to HELP YOUR FAMILY. By every action, Mr. Obama seems more concerned about citizens of the world than HIS citizens. That’s a lofty and idealistic goal in a utopian society, but this world is far from Utopia and there is NOTHING wrong with caring for your own first. Words from a musical come to mind, “…My dear attractive dewy-eyed idealist; today you have to learn to be a realist…”
Mitt Romney is quite private a person and not really comfortable ‘tooting his own horn.’ Is something wrong with that? Since when is it a character flaw that is reflective of anything more than humility? He’s been criticized for not sharing a lot of himself (after all, there must be something he’s hiding…) and for being privileged and successful. Since when is either a crime So, no criminal record, that’s good; Mr. Obama, where’s your record? RECORDS? Are we electing a personality in chief or a commander in chief (problem-solver-in-chief)?
After hearing from others this week about how Mitt Romney helped them, and hearing how he appreciated and loved his family (I know everyone does-but for some reason, many feel that Mitt Romney is a failure of a man because he doesn’t EXUDE warmth), and also listening to his speech (though this is edited-NOT FOR CONTENT), I feel comfortable stating that many on the ‘fence’ changed their minds. Heck, staunch Democrats on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” were pleasantly surprised by the evening.
Again, I come back to the same, “ARE WE ELECTING SOMEONE ACCOMPLISHED OR SOMEONE WHO WANTS, BUT NEVER HAS ACCOMPLISHED?”
